Welcome to the We Made It Blog!
I am Lynsey, the Participation Coordinator here at Thinktank. I know, you’re probably thinking what on earth does that mean? Basically I create as many opportunities as I can to help people connect with Thinktank and the We Made It project. If I could get everyone in Birmingham to say, “Yea, I know Thinktank, I did…..with them” my job would be done and I could retire extremely early!
Why this Blog then? Well behind-the-scenes work in museums is often that, hidden away, a little secretive, and galleries seem to emerge out of nowhere! The process is of course is a lot more complicated, the development of We Made It actually began in 2006, and we would like to share it with you. As we get to the deep end of the project it gets a lot more interesting so this is where our Blog begins!
So what will we be Blogging about? The physical creation of the new gallery is a massive topic but we will try to document the highlights of our journey. We begin with removing old galleries to make room for the new one, creating new exhibits, interactives and graphics and finally building the finished product! Look out for 4 key exhibits as we follow the story of their creation.
I will also be following the development of new activities for the museum produced together with people in our communities. These include new object handling activities, an online walking trail and new family activity packs. Very exciting for Thinktank visitors!
Lastly, We Made It will be welcoming lots of new volunteers into the museum to help us with all sorts of work. This is a really exciting development for Thinktank as we have not been able to provide many volunteering opportunities before. Through the Blog you will meet these volunteers and find out about their work for the museum.
Well I think that should keep us occupied for a while! This Blog is, of course, for you the reader so we welcome all feedback, comments, shares, likes etc. I hope you enjoy reading and are maybe inspired to visit one day!
